The 1960's

1959: The carrefour company is created by the Fournier and Defforey families
1960: Carrefour opens its first supermarket in Annecy in Haute-Savoie.
1961: The LLC Promodis, the forerunner of Promodes, is created. The company was formed through a merger of two wholesaler families from Normandy, managed by Paul-Auguste Halley and Leonor Duval Lemonnier.
1962: Promodes opens its first supermarket in Mantes-la-Ville(Yvelines).
1963: Carrefour invents a new store concept, the Hypermarket.
1969: The Promodes supermakets adopt the Champion brand name
